Pyorrhea, also known as periodontitis, is a serious gum disease that results in inflammation, bleeding, pus formation, and eventually loosening of teeth if left untreated. Ayurveda provides natural and effective ways to treat pyorrhea and restore oral health.
Pyorrhea (Periodontitis) is a serious gum infection that leads to:
Loose or shaky teeth
Pus and bleeding from gums
Formation of hard tartar (plaque)
Foul smell from the mouth
If not treated in time, teeth become weak and start falling out.
Improper oral hygiene – Not cleaning teeth regularly or correctly
Frequent untimely eating habits
Indigestion and weak digestive fire (Agni)
Liver dysfunction – leads to acidity in the blood, affecting gums
Heavy, non-vegetarian or greasy food
Excessive consumption of pan, gutkha, tobacco
Breathing through the mouth instead of the nose
Not chewing food properly
Chronic constipation, indigestion
Clean teeth properly twice a day using herbal powder.
After meals, clean teeth with your middle finger using Ayurvedic tooth powder.
Chew Neem or Babool twigs to brush teeth naturally.
Mix rock salt (sendha namak) in mustard oil and massage the gums gently with your finger to improve gum strength.
While passing stool or urine, clench your teeth tightly. This is believed to keep teeth strong.
Take 10g Triphala powder with water at bedtime.
Take Avipattikar churna twice a day for digestion.
Make a decoction of Jamun tree bark and use it as a mouth rinse multiple times a day.
Apply neem oil on gums, leave for a few minutes, then rinse with water.
Roast and grind alum. Use it as tooth powder. Also, rinse with alum water.
Use neem toothpicks to remove stuck food particles after meals.
Drink warm water with lemon juice twice a day.
Drink fresh juice of spinach, carrot, and wheatgrass daily for internal healing.
Mix the following in equal quantities:
Jatamansi – 10g
Copper sulfate (Neela Thotha) – 10g
Black pepper – 5g
Cloves – 2g
Carom seeds (Ajwain) – 2g
Dry ginger – 5g
Camphor – 1g
Rock salt – 5g
Geru (Red ochre clay) – 10g
Grind into a fine powder. Use it to brush gums 3 times a day by rubbing with a finger. This is a proven Ayurvedic formula.
Avoid indigestion and constipation.
Take light, digestible food.
At bedtime: Eat harad (myrobalan) and drink warm milk.
In the morning: Take 2g dried amla powder with water.
Avoid spicy food, tea, and coffee.
Brush your teeth twice daily
Use floss and herbal mouthwash
Clean between teeth after meals
Visit a dentist every 6 months for checkups
